CONGRATULATIONS!
At the Annual General Meeting of the Ladies Golf Union held in Belfast, Maureen Lockett took over as President, having been Chairman in 2002. Sue Johnson became an Honorary Life President, having previously been Chairman and President of the LGU. Both ladies and past Captains and Presidents of the YLCGA and are well-known throughout the County.
A number of past and present YLCGA Executive Members travelled to Belfast in support and to celebrate with Maureen and Sue. |

YLCGA Christmas Quiz
The winners of the Quiz Competition were Joyce Yates (Keighley) and Sylvia Eastwood (Skipton) who both scored 39 out of 40 - congratulations to both ladies and many thanks to all of you who supported this fund raising effort devised by Barbara Goodall (West End). We raised L281 for the Alison Nicholas Fund - a fantastic result.

Yorkshire successes in PING Competition
Michelle Leatherland and Natalie Ireland (Shipley) won the Regional Final held at Hollins Hall, scoring 37 points in the Fourball Better Ball event. Other Yorkshire pairs who will go through to the Final being held at Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel, Golf and Country Club on October 7 are Wendy Stott and Carol Crowther (Outlane) and Eileen Corn and Ann Chippendale (Pannal). MAUREEN LOCKETT NOMINATED AS LGU PRESIDENT
Many congratulations to Maureen Lockett who has been nominated as LGU President with effect from January 2009. Maureen has been President of the YLCGA for the past two years and her experience on the Executive will be missed but she moves on with our full support and we wish her well in her prestigious new role. YORKSHIRE SUCCESSES AT THE GOLD AND SILVER MEDAL FINALS
Congratulations to Jackie Barraclough (East Bierley) who won the Gold Medal Final held at Seaton Carew Golf Club on 12 June, with a score of 79-6-73, beating Sally Fisher (Sand Moor) on a countback, with Shirley Ashforth (Bawtry) in 6th place.
On the same day, Helen Pearson (Crow Nest Park) won the Silver Medal Final at Hartlepool, 95-21-74. Helen was closely followed by Carole Cox (Bracken Ghyll) and Jackie Elam (Huddersfield) and Terri Williamson (Bedale) were placed 4th and 6th respectively.

ENGLAND GOLF PARTNERSHIP VOLUNTEER AWARDS
We are delighted to announce that, at a recent dinner hosted by the England Golf Partnership, Joy Hunter was presented with a Volunteer Award for Services to Golf.
Joy has been involved with English Ladies Golf since becoming Northern Representative on the National Training Committee in 1989. She is Chair of the English LGU Scratch Score Committee and Scratch Score Assessor for Yorkshire and she has been instrumental in organising the re-assessment of courses to USGA Standards throughout England.
She has been County Trainer for the YLCGA since 1996, acting as adviser to the County Captains and Teams. She arranges the winter training in conjunction with the County Coach and gives unstintingly of her time in developing and encouraging a team which has now won the English County Championship 8 times under her supervision.
Joy was nominated for a Volunteer Award by the County as a tribute to her dedication over the years – Congratulations, Joy!!
This is the inaugural year of the Volunteer Awards and it is hoped that they will go from strength to strength to encourage and reward volunteers in the future. |
