Rudding Beginners

During the early summer 9 Beginners Coaching groups are run by volunteer organisers around the County to introduce girls to golf. They have been very successful and many of our up and coming talented girls started golf in these groups. Yorkshire is very grateful to the skilful and dedicated Professionals who lead these groups and to the many willing volunteers who assist them.
In these two photographs we show a group of young girls at Headingley Golf Club with Professional Neil Harvey and his assistants Norma Beck and Fiona Hockins
The second photo was taken during a coaching session on bunker play. Work covers basic skills and golf rules are introduced as appropriate. The girls keep a record of work covered and coaching points for each session. These booklets are a help when practising at their own course and are a valuable communication between the County Coach, parents and the girls own club coach.
We are grateful to ‘Masters Golf’ for sponsoring the goodie bag of tees, markers etc which are given to all the girls.

Ellie Goodall

Whilst the world’s focus is on the Championships at Loch Lomond our own Ellie Goodall from Selby was competing in the Scottish under 14 Girls Championship at Largs. I am pleased to report that she posted the same score as, Belgium’s Jennifer Remy who was declared the winner on a count back. Jennifer carded 40 on the back nine - Ellie 41. Well done.

Cleckheaton’s Megan Clarke won her regional Final in the ‘Wee Wonders’ competition at Leeds and will now be taking her place at the end of August in the Final at St Andrews. We wish her all the best and hope that she enjoys the experience.

Promising Young at Ganton met for their training session at Ganton in mid-March – this time on a beautiful sunny Spring day.  They had the opportunity of meeting Rachel Bell, Yorkshire Champion in 2006 and 2007 and ex County player, who has now joined the professional ranks.  They watched her train and test out two new drivers, which she hit “out of sight”, and then the girls ventured on to the course for a few holes.  They all tried out the bunkers – “bunkers, no problem!” and had a great time.  The Rachel Bells of the future perhaps!!
